The conditions where DCO performs best: accounts with high impression volume (100K+ impressions per week per ad set), campaigns targeting broad audiences where user-level personalization has signal to work with, and advertisers who have validated their core message and want to find the best expression of it across creative variations. Turning DCO off mid-flight resets the learning phase and causes a performance dip while the algorithm re-establishes its baseline with a static creative set. Budget concentration is a real risk with DCO. The algorithm finds a winning combination relatively quickly and then serves it heavily.
